I have a Mugo Pine that’s maybe 4-5 years old, gifted to me by @sorce . We repotted it about exactly one year ago to get it into a smaller pot. It’s been doing well enough since then, but recently I’ve noticed fairly uniform yellowing/dying of the bottom-most needles. In my past experience, uniform yellowing that starts with the oldest foliage means the tree has not been getting enough water. Is that the case here?

I make sure to water it everyday, either by watering-waiting-watering again, or by soaking it. I really dont think it’s been getting too dry, but i could try watering it twice or leaving it in a saucer to hold some extra water. Also of note, I’ve noticed quite a bit of roots coming out the bottom of the pot. Could this be an indicator that my pot is too small? Should I place the pot into a larger pot with extra soil?

Thanks for any suggestions, this tree means a lot to me as it was generously gifted, so I’d really like to keep it alive.
