Yellow leaves

In the last days my elm has many yellow leaves. (See pictures)
This can be a problem with the watering?

After much reading and warnings I'm sure that if there is any problem can only be due to poor of watering.

The soil at the end of each day presents dried.
I do a good watering at the end of each day but at the end of the next day the soil is dry.

I live in Lisbon, Portugal. The Elm is located on the inside with lots of light and at least two hours of direct sunshine per day in the morning.

Any recommendations? Do watering twice a day?
What other causes could be the arizing of these yellow leaves?

Hi I have just got a new Chinese Elm from a wholesaler who gets them from Florida (hot and humid) he tells me they get them from China. So they are staged a few months in Florida then here for three months before I bought it. The greenhouse I bought it from was very humid and I am taking it to a house, very dry, so there is quite a shock in the move, I have lost a lot of leaves. I had the same problem as you the soil is bark and maybe coconut husk or something like that, when I water it the soil absorbs almost nothing and the leaves turn yellow in the night and fall off the next day, when the tree needs watering again. What I was thinking is the tree needs to live on the humidity in the soil so I watered in the morning and let it dry all day, in the evening I cut a slit in a piece of plastic food wrap and put it over the pot the slit goes round the trunk the two pieces stick together. This helped, allowing three days between waterings and it lost less leaves. The problems still there though, I found there was slow release fertilizer on the soil and wondered if the change in watering habits had over fertilized the soil so I got them out of the pot and flushed the soil with lots of water, now it is finally warm enough to put it outside which I did yesterday again this morning and there were no yellow leaves this morning.
Is it fixed? I don't know, if so which was the problem? I don't Know. Is this helpful? I don't know. Anything sound familiar? little green beads? You could try putting it outside though.

It looks very healthy. Those are just old leaves ready to fall off.

Prolonged indoors may change that though and can cause other problem(s) later. Take it out if possible. Good luck!

Or it could just be old leaves. When they start putting out new growth in the spring the old leaves start to fall off. It should be outside for best growth.
