Witch alder

Hi nuts, I just planted up a witch alder, Forthergilla Major, that I found at a local nursery. Airy white flowers with a sweet fragrance and nice orange and red foliage in the fall, at least according to the interwebs. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with one?

I have several in the landscape, north of Seattle. My experience is that they readily sucker/colonize, but don't seem to gain much girth in the older trunks. That being said, the spring blossoms with their light honey fragrance, and amazing autumn color, make them well worth having.

I do know in the Midwest, where soils tend to be derived from glacial till, meaning often contains some limestone. I do know Fothergilla simply fail to thrive. They definitely require a somewhat acidic soil, relatively low in limestone.
