IMG_3125.jpegI bought this sageretia this summer, been really happy outdoors and now it’s winter here in Sweden and it’s about -5c where I live.

At first it was happy and green and now it’s very crunchy so to speak… have I killed it and am I doing something wrong? I have it under a 17000lumen Hydro artificial grow light 12 hours a day.

also, its a sub tropical tree. I see you are in Sweden, so make sure you have good drainage. Maybe too much fertilizer.

Use the chopstick trick to manage watering. Stab a chopstick or skewer into the soil, near the center, all the way to the bottom. Leave it there, and use it like a dipstick to check the soil moisture. Water just before the stick is completely dry.

Many tropical trees will "throw a tantrum" when they get moved indoors for the winter, throw off their old foliage. The leaves they had were adapted to life outside, but won't work as well in the new indoor conditions. So the throw away the old leaves and grow new ones better suited to their new environment. My ficus have done it bad this year.
one way to help get around it is to let the trees get just a little cold for a week or two before bringing them in. Nighttime lows around 10C, maybe slightly lower. They go into a very light dormancy sort of, and when they wake up they're in a new place like nothing happened. Sort of like when you fall asleep on the bus.
