White stains on Ficus Microcarpa

I've seen this small Ficus at my hardware store at the reduced items for -75% (Only payed about 1.30€ =) ).
The soil was completely dry and it looked like it was barely alive, it had this white color on the leaves, soil and on its roots. Thought it was just bad quality of water.
Now after about a week it looks like it recovered some vigour, but the white stains kind of remain. I already tried to brush it off the roots with an old toothbrush as well as wiping the leaves with a cloth.

Any ideas on what this might be?

Just what I thought too, but shouldn't I be able to remove them easily?

Not necessarily, maybe try a mild vinegar solution.
