Local nursery had 50% off on junipers including Nana and Sargent. I snagged a few with all of them being 1 Gal size. Do I go ahead and give them a trim and wire or do nothing? I know not to repot at this point.

Also someone gave me a japanese camellia that's about 2.5 feet tall, nice trunk but in a nursery pot as well.

Thx

You can prune them up if you like and any light bending but heavy bending should be done in the winter, and dead wood work should be done around June so the tree can rapidly heal itself

Junipers do best with lots of foliage when repotting - so if that's something you want to do in spring, then I'd wait before punning too much.

Clean out the dead stuff, do some slight thinning maybe, then leave it alone and repot in spring.

Once it's showing strong growth, then prune away, but wait until late fall for any heavy wiring/bending.

* This is my process. I'm also known to bare root nursery junipers as my first order of business, but can't recommend that to others (I haven't had any problems - but they've always been very strong; straight from the nursery - "knocks on wood").

Funny you say that about the bare root nursery junipers. In spring, I'll be able to get 3, 4 or 5 yr seedlings at very good prices. Looking forward to getting some to experiment with.

You can do some wiring in October and get some shape into the branches
