So I have some acorns I have been collecting from trees at my work. I am guessing it is a Coast Live Oak but the acorn seems to be small(maybe because of the weather here).
if i look at this page http://www.larkspurtrees.org/southern-live-oak.html the comparison between the leaves makes me lean toward coastal live oak. if you check the second picture i posted you can see the leaves do have some spines on them. and the leaf tips sort of curl under the leaf
yeah that is what the acorn and the old growth on the tree sort of remind me of. but the new growth on the leaf is much closet to the coastal live oak.
Ok sounds like I will treat them as Southern Live Oak.
They are growing here in Southern California so the drought tolerant part makes since. They are planted at my work here at The Indian Wells Tennis Gardens. We host the BNP Paribas Open and these are planted in our grass areas for people to rest under in the shade during the tournament since it gets about 105 in the month of March when the tournament is going. They have been in the ground here for about 6 or 7 years and already shade the entire area they are planted. I am guessing they were about 5-10 years old when they were originally planted. they seem to be growing pretty fast. The trunks have increased 5 times what they were at the least since they originally planted them.
