One of my classmates asked me to take a look his JBP and to tell him if there was any problem with the tree.
I observed whole tree and found some areas with this kind of needles. Could you tell me what the problem the tree is getting ? Thanks

My first guess would be spider mite damage.
I would also consider mite damage with the whitish cast and tan areas. Needle sheath mites, spruce spider mites etc. Close ups of needle junctures may show more webbing. often more easily seen if tree is light;y misted as the droplets highlight the webbing.

maybe the tree have no problem just nature getting her work done by removing old needles

You are almost correct but Mites are tiny and very difficult to see with the naked eye on the tree! Here it is. There are quite a few of them who are running up and down the needles pretty fast

looks really cute, but I have no idea what it is!

Must have a reasonable zoom function for that quality.
I am using IPhone 12 Pro Max . I don’t like its camera at all. Its zoom is not good! 😬 The older model of IPhone is much better .

The fact that I had to check mine probably is indicative of the frequency with which I change phones. Does the iPhone SE ring a bell;). I do prefer my Canon camera:cool: When I put it on a tripod the focus improves. Something about movement.
What is your favourite approach for mites? Please don't say tweezers.

I just googled to check what the IPhone SE is. Now I know 😂
Yeah, I agree the tripod will improve the sharpness, but with 12 Pro max , even I placed it on a block to stabilize, focus has never been right ! I found a lot of people complained this issue to Apple, but nothing changed ! Nowadays, the camera phone is so useful, because we can carry it to anywhere we go. I have quite a few film and digital cameras, but the last time I used them was a few years ago!!!!

I love to use a mixture of cooking oil and dish detergent solution to spray mites . What about you?

Could you share the recipe, please? Are you ever concerned that this solution takes off too much cuticle?
I use 10 ml (2 teaspoons) of dish detergent; 20ml (4 teaspoons) of cooking oil, mixed into 1 liter of warm water. Spray on the tree .
Avoid spraying in full sun or when Temperature over 90 degrees. Early morning or late in the day is best time .

I am not concerned about cuticle abrasion.

I have tried a number of approaches with limited success. Most insecticidal soaps were ineffective for any length of time even when used frequently for two or three weeks. Most years the biggest issue is during the hottest and driest part of the summer and the junipers are affected the most. I have resorted to the use of malathion and dish soap combination. It has the added benefit of controlling other insects that can affect the trees in my nursery at other times of the year.
The Malathion is 50% concentration and I use 2 teaspoons per gallon of water, I add 1/4 teaspoon of Dawn liquid dish detergent as well. I use it primarily on conifers as they are the ones most affected by mites in my situation.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
To get the good result from soap and oil solution, the temperature must be not hot and humidity is not too dry. The soap only works when the area is wet. Mr. David Nguy is one of the fans using soap + oil solution on his bonsai collection.

I use a hand lens or jewelers lens, put it right up against the phone. Is what it is, tho can get some significantly tighter and clean photos.
Dang aphids, send em’ packin!

Here’s example of hand lens with phone, very tiny aphids and small mustard flower first opening..

It’s not easy, gotta get distance and timing of focus dialed in. On my phone I can tap a specific spot on the screen image to focus on specific spot, this makes it even more complicated technique-wise though can make for better or more refined photo

Some of my friends who living in Vietnam are able to do macro with their iPhone . They bought clip-on macro lense made by a Vietnamese guy. The quality is really excellent.
