Hello, I have just dived into the ancient art that is bonsai, and although my first tree isn't here yet, I'm already excited.
After a few days of research, I decided to buy a Chinese maple (which from multiple sources was a good specimen for beginners) such as myself.

One piece of advice that keeps popping up is join a group, or a forum where I can discuss bonsai with other, more experienced proponents, and I've already seen more than a few here!

If there are any must reads for the bonsaiist, then please tell me!

If you are starting with a maple I would say a must read book is Bonsai with Japanese Maples by Peter Adams. I'm sure you will find it very informing even as a novice in bonsai.

Much appreciated Graydon. :D

I'm in NW England, and it's fairly humid and warm at the moment.
