That's a hell of a tree. How long have you been working on this?

Looks just like an elm tree. What more could you want. Nice pot too!

Beautiful tree!!!

Excellent work on creating multiple apecies...... this tree has the very natural look of a quiet tree in a field... kind of gives the feeling of wanting to stop and take a nap :)

I might suggest lowering the potting just a tad in the future to get rid of the slight mounding. I think it would enhance the feeling more if the soil surface was level with the pot lip.... of course it will continue to be a great tree no matter what !!! very nice.....

Hi John,

This elm was grown from a seed that was sprouted in 1990.

It has been container grown the entire time.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on my tree.

Cheers,
Paul

I appreciate the compliments very much and it was nice of you to share the story it told you.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. Your right about the potting, it's due to be re-potted this spring.

Paul

I also like the pot, greens like this ones color I think is as naturalistic as you can get with a glazed. I also really like the stand the tree is on and the faces on the edges of it.

Beautiful! And very naturalistic. I LOVE the pot too.

Thanks for the kind words Brian.

The inspiration for this particular tree came from some of the local live oaks growing around my area.

Nature is the best instructor anyone can have.

Paul

Hi Mike,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The pot is finished in a glazed call Satin Blue-Gray. It is an extremely variable glaze and can produce a wide range of blues, grays, and greens when fired in a reduction atmosphere.

The stand was given to me many years ago by one of my mentors. He was a great inspiration to me and I think of him often when I use this stand.

Pail

Looks very nice Paul. This is is the caliber tree we all set out to make when we start in this hobby.

Nice work, Paul, and nice pot. And it was a pleasure meeting you in N.O. back in October.

Could you PM me the dimensions of the pot and what one like that would cost me? I know I've got a few trees at least that would work with something along those lines.

Best regards,

Zach

Beautiful! Tree, pot and stand!
Please post another photo in the spring.

Bonsai is a funny hobby that way.... we are often lucky enough to get a chance to remember our friends and mentors through trees / stands / pots ... its comforting sometimes to know that hopefully the same kind fate will befall us all...

and of course the pot is beautiful... that goes without saying

What a great compliment Tom.

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on this tree.

This is and example of what might happen when you read to many bonsai books.

Paul
