After a few days and some reading I think I left the sphagnum moss to wet. I went out today and squeezed the moss as hard I I could to push a bunch water out top and bottom. I sealed both with waterproof tape. Will this be enough or should I start over?

I did the same thing and mine worked. It should be moist but not a bag of water.

I try to leave the bottom tie just a little looser so excess water can drain away. Rain tends to run down the branches and, no matter how well you tie the top, some will filter into the bag. If there's no way out the bag will gradually fill with water and kill your layer.

Thanks guys! All these are on my yard Japanese maples. Branches I was going to trim off anyway. But if I can get more trees instead that would be great.
