So right now, the bark of my chinese elm is grey, light brown, and very dark brown..... I guess grey will be the main color in the future (?).

In America one of their common names (besides chinese elm) is lace bark elm. Because they have such beautiful mottled bark. I think it's their greatest feature personally. They are gray when young and as they age the color begins to show as bark falls off

There are a lot of Elms here with very beautiful orange and gray trunks.

The lacebark quality on Chinese elms is fantastic! That shows that your tree has some good age to it. Very cool!

Imperial Masterpiece
This is an annual feature of the smooth or 'lace' bark Chinese elms. As the old bark drops off it reveals the fresh orange colors underneath. Those gradually fade until the trunk is mottled greys again for the rest of the year.
