Hi this is the first tree I have purchased. It was sold to me as a Dawn Redwood but I’m not so sure. First off, the leaves are still green. I assume a dawn redwood would at least have its fall colors by now if not have already dropped its leaves. Secondly, the tree has two types of foliage, the regular fan type ones but it also has a couple straight needles with other needles jutting out of it in no pattern. This is a characteristic of a Coastal Redwood if I’m not mistaken. I tried to take a picture which would show those different patterns. Any input would be very appreciated since I have no experience with these trees at all.
Thanks!

It is a dawn and not a coast. I have both.

If you go to to the top right and click on you avatar then on account details, you can add your location. Nearest major city and cultivation zone will help people understand your local climate and give better advice.

I'm not sure what you mean by "it also has a couple straight needles with other needles jutting out of it in no pattern"? Do you have a better pick of that area? At the base of the leaves are buds for the next set of growth. Not sure if that's what you're trying to describe??

Depending on where you're located and if this tree was bought local or not, it just might not be ready to loose its leaves yet. The tree looks healthy though :)

...and welcome to the forum :D

Yeah, your job is to pick and choose those that fit into your "design", and cut off or wire into a good position those that don't.
