Is it too late in the year to chop a lace leaf maple, leaving no leaves? I think I read where in the hot summer these trees go quasi-dormant. Or in hot shade will there be enough sun energy to produce a strong set of shoots?

I'm in zone 6.

Thanks.

I wouldn't chop a maple now, I would wait until late winter to do a major cut. Some might have other opinions but I would be patient and save the chop for next winter.

I don't think I'd ever defoliate a lace leaf, they are too slow as it is.
