Hello, I am currently wireing my Chinese Elm bonsai and am wondering about some of the branch rules in informal upright form. Can I keep the bottom branch that is growing at me? I have wired it to make it horizontal and not come straight at you as I know this is a no-no. Any thoughts?
Thank You!

The "S" curve on this, from the current front, is so pronounced. You want to make it a bit more subtle and it could be as simple as rotating it a few degrees counter-clockwise. From there, you might be able to use the branch if you yank it a bit to the right.

Really not sure unless you can take/post more photos as you rotate the tree.

Nice background...makes me want to just go and swim, if cold, maybe just fish. :)

Thank you, I will try to post more pics while rotating it later tonight. Thank you for the input.

Go with an air layer and then worry about how to proceed with both parts - easier on the nerves and plant(s).

Where should I air layer. Red or Yellow line? I have never actually attempted an air-layer. I would love to give it a try though!

First, decide what will yield you the best tree NOT the most. Concentrate on one and if you can get another, fine, BUT NEVER do it for the sake of producing more tree. A good tree is better than 2 or 3 mediocre ones. Learn that fast and you will be ahead of the game.

W/o the pics, we cannot give you good advise where to chop or layer (yet).
