The sessile oak of Mercheasa

In 2020 I had the honor of visiting a 900 year old oak, one of the oldest in Romania. The sad part was that I could not find any acorns near the tree.


A fellow bonsai enthusiast, gave me a small sapling that he grew a year before.


In 2021 i decided to repot it. It had a long curling tap root.
I was a bit scared to cut it so i decided that it should be part of the design.

It grew well for 2 years, so in 2023 spring I repoted it in a shallower container and lowered the soil line even more

November 2024:
The tree tree increased a bit the ramification.
Will add some light wire over the winter to put the main branches in place.

I know the style looks much more different than the mother tree, but I’m happy the way its developing.
