Last weekend our local club had a booth at a home and garden show. I was talking to a man and he told me that his Dad was in an a club years ago and they had went on a collecting trip for California Junipers. His Father had passed away about a year ago. He said the juniper was planted in the ground. He offered it to me , so ..... I made a trip out to his house yesterday. The Juniper was left in the burlap and had grown into the ground. It was about 10 feet tall. It had been growing about 4 years. At first I was not going to dig it after looking at it for a while . I went for it . Now lets hope it lives.DSC00854.JPGDSC00855.JPGDSC00856.JPG

The middle photo shows a powerful looking trunk at the base with some movement. Hard to tell how the foilage looks. I would have hoped for a fuller greener tree if this was planted back in the ground for 4 years. I hear that California Junipers do well in a 100% pumice mix. You should be able to find alot of info. on these junipers...check out the Golden State Bonsai Federation magazine; March-April 2012 that focuses on these beauties...Good Luck....Tom
