The 2025 Yamadori/Collecting Thread

This is my first Yamadori for 2025. In a friends garden and they had tried to get rid of it in many ways over the last year. Its a big lavender star and true to its tough nature had new buds at 6 days post dig early autumn (sthn hemisphere). Looking forward to the future carving work.

Looks like a cool spot
Did some collecting yesterday and today at my new honeyhole. This quarry has winged, slippery, and American elm growing in it, along with some interesting eastern red cedar.

This monster eastern red cedar in a rock pocket is about 50 feet from where I park.

Big curvy elm surrounded by poison ivy 😢

Dug this one, not certain what it is, possibly elm. Has crazy ramification already.

Some of those might be worth collecting if feasible. Their own foliage kinda sucks, but if I recall right Nick Lenz said they take grafts well.
That's what I'm thinking might be the best option if I do.

A cup of moss, a container of prickly pear and elms galore.

Had to pickaxe this one out of asphalt. It's been driven over before...

And here's how it came out

Chinese elm I think

Slippery elm I think. Just a root runner. We'll see if it makes roots

Made a Chinese elm group. Very small leaves on these.
