Let's see if I can get beyond speechless......breathe...whew!

This is the only pot I got into the last woodfire kiln. I still have to clean up the feet, maybe some sharp parts, the rest will remain as it is, a most beautiful representation of what over 72 hours of woodfire is, magnificent.

How did the color changes follow perfectly the foot angle?

On one side, flame path.

2 sides?

Ash so thick it dripped through a tie hole.

About 8.5x6.5x2inches, this one was a test with this clay to rock them bigger bigger joints.
Seeing as how this one survived in the stoke aisle, them biggins is on their way!

I love the color effect! Do you plan on useing this technique more? I can imagine this same color effect on a 'more refined' pot. I dont mean this in a bad way. More of a, i would love to see you push down this path more! You pull it off so nice.

I wish I had more to do with this technique, further than meeting the right people at the right time in order to be invited to fire in this kiln.

It's all the fire.

I have a goal to fire my own wood kiln this winter, but it'll be a while till I build a train kiln like this was fired in.

Then again.......🤐

Jiminy Cricket! That’s bootyful.
How do you form the kiln?

Nice job! Looks great.

Looks like you could make a tremendously versatile pot with this technique. A lot of trees would match well to this, i’d Think. Too bad none of my broadleaf trees are ready for a good pot yet.

What clay did you use? No glaze? What about freezing? How long did you fire...what temp? Type of wood? Shaken or stirred?

Nice man! I have aspirations to build my own wood fired kiln too. Gotta get some land outside of town first though. Your work just keeps getting better!

Standard 205. No Glaze. I didn't get to take part of the actual firing and missed the details, but they have been firing between 3 and 4 days and dropping between cones 10 and 13. A mix of hardwood and softwood.

Thanks!

Since woodfire kilns need to be constantly attended and die if unfed, most ordinances if written at all, treat them like a large firepit or wood BBQ.
Gas fired ones can be left only to increase in temps and have greater potential to start fires or explosions, so more permits may be required.
Just build it!

Well there’s the angle for woodland planning permission. I thought I was going to have to become a charcoal maker.
I'll show ya how I build mine when I build it.
Nice, i’ll Look forward to it.

Fabulous pot showing an outstanding color and shape. The character of the pot is very impressive. That first photo has a great rugged, natural coloration. That’s my favored side. I could easily see my oak tree in this pot of this color....but a little bigger. Well done.....Mighty fine!

Nothing even comes close to wood fire. I have seen a few designs for a small woodfire kiln made from two kiln bodies. I hope there is one in my future.
