This might of already of been asked but I didn't find it in my search. I want to monitor the air temp and humidity alone with the soil temp in my trees pots while they're being overwintered while heeled in with mulch inside "cold frame" it's really just a rectangle of cinder block against house to protect from wind and so if calling for extreme low temps I can cover. They will be exposed to the elements I'll still visually check my trees ever day I'm just curious about the temp differences from air and soil temps in my location. I love learning about stuff. So if any of you have any suggestions I'd love to hear about them thanks.

I've used this or something similar through the years. The probe goes into or under the pots while the actual thermometer sits on top of the mulch. I'm sure you can probably find something similar with internet capability.
 
If you love learning about things and you have about 50-60 dollars to spare, google search for "arduino temperature logger".
I built (and copy+paste programmed) one with a LCD display, that logs soil humidity, air humidity and temperature to a micro SD card. It produces a nice excel table with timestamps that I can use for further processing. It runs on a 5V battery or on a power cable. Depending on the measurement intervals it can run anywhere from 2 hours (with 0.5 millisecond intervals, my bad, poor programming) to roughly 35 days on a battery.

All sensors combined with a casing and some cables came down to about 40 USD, the software is free to use. Silicone caulk to waterproof it all was probably the most expensive part.
 
We use Govee sensors for temperature and humidity. Data loggers and electronic thermometers for metia temperature. Data loggers are for monitoring long term data and trends inside the media.

Govee WI-FI Hygrometer Thermometer 3 pack H5151 Indoor/Outdoor wireless with remote app For home and green house. About 69.00. Mine are very reliable. Battery life about a year. The probes have shown to be water resistant.

Or Govee Temperature Humidity Monitor Bluetooth - about 13.00. Dunno about water resistance.

For actual media measurements data 24/7 365 data loggers are used. These are much more waterproof and very accurate, yet wont give one an instant readout. One has to unplug the storage unit and plug it into a computer to see the data. It’s fine for experiments. Not so much for home use.

Elitech RC-5+ TE Temperature Data Logger USB PDF Report External Sensor These are seemingly bullet proof in my winter work.

Perhaps a better Taylor model for your use would be this Taylor model. It’s waterproof, reasonably priced and used for cold and warm applications too.

Taylor commercial panel mount probe. Price varies about 25.00

Ok cool that'll be a flash back to 20+ years ago in collage (went for electrical engineering technology got associates of applied science degree) was going to start home automation company but that fell through so somehow ended up being a machinist. I'll build one when I find time when not working 6 12+ hour days

ive used 5 govee thermo/hydro sets indoors and out. dry as desert, in full rain, freezing, only had issues when batteries died quicker due to cold. ive enjoyed the product. aside from one that switched between C and F randomly, but its helping me learn :D
