Starting out with a juniper.

Hi all, I'm new to bonsai and starting with a blue point juniper that started out as about a 2' tree bought from Lowe's. I also have a red japanese maple, but it has a long way to go. I'm located near the Alabama coast.

I know I've got lots to learn (improving my wiring is at the top of the list). I have one concern I was hoping someone might be able to help with. I've got a bit of a split in the trunk just above a branch that was removed and in a bend. Does it look like this will affect the rest of the tree above this? Anything that I should do? TIA!

Don't worry about a little bit of a split it happens all the time when bending large branches on junipers

Bama. I'm really tired and I think I may have read your name wrong.
Call Vance to pinch me!

Can I call you BAMA? (real loud)

Seriously though.....
Welcome to Crazy.

You took a lot off that gal!
I busted a branch like that and it lived. I had a bit more foilage left tho.

Get another one!

Thanks for the replies. Meh, Bama works (not a huge football fan though, if that's what you're referencing:p).

It has been almost a month since I chopped everything off, but have done a bit more trimming and shaping since then. It hasn't shown any signs of browning or anything since stripping her way down, so I'm guessing she's not too shy about bearing all. I imaging the split happened earlier on, and I just exposed more a few days ago. I probably will get another one (only 6 bucks). Might try more of a wind swept as I really like movement as opposed to a stationary looking bonsai.
