This is my first black pine and I wanted to protect it with a fungicide to prevent any problems in the future. I've done some research and from what i read was to spray it with Daconil every 2 to 3 weeks during the growing season. I sprayed it this morning and it left a white residue on the needles. So About 10 minutes later I ended up spraying the residue off with water because I didn't want it to dry and leave the white residue on the needles. Is this normal for the Fungicide to look this way when sprayed and should I spray the tree every 3 weeks during the growing season. A picture of the pine

Daconil will leave a whitish residue no matter what. The residue is what will kill and prevent fungus. Spraying it with water just washed off the fungicide, and means it was a waste of spray. If the tree doesn't have any fungus issues i would spray it once a month, if it has an fungus that needs treatment i would spray it every 2 or 3 weeks depending on what kind of fungus it has and how far its progressed.

Don't wash trees with water after spraying fungicides/insecticides, or spray before rain, its a waste of spray. I spray my trees usually only if they have a fungus, or whenever i notice trees around them have fungus. And be careful with some fungicides, i read that some can kill micohorizae (i have no idea how its spelled, sorry) so before i spray my trees i usually put a towel or something over the soil just in case. Its better to be safe than sorry.

Nice tree, by the way. i would eventually remove one of the bar branches though.

Thanks for the response, Yeah I wasn't sure about the white residue left on the tree after the spray. It doesn't look like the tree has any fungus issues so I'll wait a few more weeks and reapply the fungicide and leave it. I bought the Daconil in the spray bottle and the spray came out in a stream instead of a spray. I turned the yellow nozzle on top to spray and it still came out as a steam so I may exchange it for another bottle. I also did put down a plant cloth to cover the soil before I sprayed the tree so I think the soil should be ok. This is my first pine so I have some reading to do. I did pick up the Bonsai Today Masters' Series Pines book and it's a really good book so that should help me out a lot.

I've found that all the Daconil spray bottles are like that. I buy the concentrate and put it into spray bottles that work better, it makes life a lot easier. The Bonsai Today Masters' Series Pines book will be good for you. Try to read everything before you really work on the tree.

I'll buy the concentrate next time then and it's probably cheaper in the long run. The book has such great information, It's a must have for pine beginners like me. Thanks;)
