I purchased this tree June of 2013.

I have two of these Elms now... They seem to grow from EVERYWHERE all at the same time, and don't make long runner branches like other Elms I have owned. I understand they are a Dwarf variety and won't trunk up very easy which I am fine with and I think I like the fact they don't grow all wild and need to be pruned 5-6 times a season... But it makes for what I see could be some challenges down the road-
Creating fine ramification might be tough as I have one I am trying to style as a broom and I just don't know if it will work out or not.

Healing large scars could take a while...

Only had mine a few months, so we will see.
Regardless- looks like you shaped this one up pretty well so far. I like the movement in the trunk.

I noticed last year if you remove the bigger leaves it seemed to do fine for producing finer branches. This year will be a better test for producing that branching.
I know there are a ton of them on this species but it will be a fun tree to pet. Yes I said pet.
