Show me trees with BAR BRANCHES!!!

Just got this couple weeks back and 2 lower branches across from each other. Just wired down but not sure I want to remove one since only lower branches.

Great thread. I'm looking forward to seeing all the trees from the folks who claim to buck the rules.

Is that a graft?
Don’t believe so but possibly? How would one know? I could ask the guy I bought It from. I believe It was collected and been developed somewhat over last couple years but not 100% sure if it’s history. As far as moss (weeds) it is some type of moss but not sure tyoe

Here is lower branch before I tried to wire them down. And maybe better picture of moss?

I guess we all need to know what is a cartwheel branch?

:D

I guess this thread was inspired by yesterday's shenanigans. Lol...nothing like poking that dog.
That’s what I assumed as well. Actually had to laugh when I saw title assuming that’s what it was in reference to 😂

Indeed. I was hoping to have a conversation about "the rules," but the thread quickly devolved into some nonsense about U.K. and U.S. soldiers. I figured I'd try again here.

As I said in that thread before the proverbial shite hit the fan, "the rules" are guidelines made up by humans to fit what humans believe is the ideal look for a tree.

I prefer the term 'guidelines' to the 'rules' because some people really abhor the idea of rules. We have seen some heated discussions around here about those persnickity rules. Some say to hell with those rules, while others think they are the Bible of bonsai. I'm neutral mostly. I think they are good for guidance but I'm not going to burn an otherwise decent tree just because it dared to break a rule.

Mostly though, if you go out at look at trees in nature, I think you would be hard pressed to find one that follows all the rules. That being said though, most trees in nature probably wouldn't look as good as a bonsai as ones that do adhere to most of those "rules".
