See that pattern Mav!

Most of the time....that's what we do!

You may want yours to trunk up a bit more before it.....

But that is THE way to do an azalea.
You have to get to wiring early....

Search. Baby Bending.....its a great technique!

If it were mine... I would not trim it this year but I would put it in any larger shallow container and spread the root mass out a bit. Looks good, just my take on it.

You could go in and just thin it out a bit, trim up some of the straight up growth. Other than that I wouldn't do to it until spring. What variety is it? The leaf looks like Wakaebisu.

If you trim it now, you won't get any blooms. Best time to trim is right after it flowers.

Unless of course you don't care about the blossoms this year...

I guess I should have mentioned that, but looking at it, I don't see any buds. It should be showing some by now, it may have been pruned late summer so it probably would not flower anyway.

I bought it late summer so I don't know but there was 2 one with dead flowers and poor floage and and the one I got plus this one looked healthier and cheaper .

I'm not sure what variety it is

You can do some thinning now. Remove some of the old leaves and look to the branching. Where it was pruned before, there might be three or more branches coming out in a whorl. Thin to two. Do not do any major pruning or wiring now and do not repot. For trees in development, I like to remove all of the flower buds so the tree puts its energy into vegetative rather than reproductive growth.

Repot on early spring with the first sign of new growth and any save any major pruning and cutback when the tree is in growth. Wire when the leaves have hardened off in early summer.

Where are you keeping it? The growth looks heavily one sided like light is only getting to one half of the tree and all the leaves are turning towards it. Consider rotating it every couple weeks to avoid this...

Don't cut the buds off, enjoy the flowers. It will not rob energy. I have tried it both ways, it does not matter. They grow like weeds from spring to fall weather you let them bloom or not.

John
I like this haha I'll just trim the leaves and the branch's like Scott said but try leave the buds if I find any

It was like that when I got it just hasnt changed it stays out side most of the time but if it's freezing I put it in a cold room in front of the window

Well, like I said man, just rotate it more often so it gets sun on all sides... Just having the leaves turned to face one direction more than another is not a big deal by itself... It is the potential for growth to slow or die on the side in the shade that is a problem...
