The Warm Canuck
Chumono
Good day,
I hijacked my own thread so I started another post for this specific question.
I bought this nursery Burr Oak in the fall and planted it for the winter. I was thinking that I'd just air-layer it, but after researching the topic, I don't think I want to attempt it, as the success rate is apparently pretty low for Oaks.
Burr Oaks are native to my area, very cold hardy and apparently they have been successfully Bonsai'd. This tree is about 12' tall at the moment and was pretty pot bound in the 35G container it came in. It had really large roots all the way to the bottom of the pot.
Has anyone had success in Bonsaiing an Oak such as this?
@leatherback posted some information on using the Black Garbage bag method for Yamadori, has anyone had any success with this method?

Sizing a Grow Box
This is based on the stage of development of the root ball once again. I do the most that I can in one session. But this will be different depending on what I find with each particular tree. The destination is usually a couple of stops away. Leaving the root ball just large enough to allow...
