I purchased a young 1G Shin Deshojo from an online nursery late summer last year. I feel like I’ve learned a lot in the last year since I started collecting trees and learning about bonsai. But I’m obviously still very much a beginner, I’ve never been to a club or had a real instruction. Just a few books, forums, and lots of videos so far. I got lucky that this one seemed to already have some branches in pretty good spots. I wired the trunk and a few of branches, did a bit of selective pruning. I left the wire on too long and got wire bite 🙄, but that’s ok. The wire has since been removed. Here’s a few pictures from last year with green leaves. Then a few pictures from the last couple days with red leaves. Thoughts and feed back are always welcome. Thx

Fun tree! I love Shin deshojo, and it looks like you got a good graft. Not too much for input at this point, but I like the movement you've put into it so far, and good move letting it develop in a larger container rather than going straight to a bonsai pot. I say keep letting it develop and keep practicing those skills. This will be a great tree to grow with.
I have a lot of maples like this. Some have great grafts that I decide to develop as they are, but most I just wire movement into and then take cuttings and layers later.
