Seeking input- live oak gall

Any ideas as to what type of gall this is? Appears on the base of a live oak, hard to tell if it was any further up the trunk as the trunks were cut down a couple of years ago.

Those are burls. The cause is probably some sort of infection or irritation at the site. The exact cause of burls is not well understood though
