My area, Charlotte NC, is in the middle of a construction boom, everywhere you look trees are cut down and land is getting cleared….it’s pretty heart breaking to see so many areas that were once green and full of life turned into asphalt and apartments. BUT…. When life gives you lemons…. I’ve been rescuing trees here and there. Todays rescue is lace bark Chinese elm. I had been keeping an eye on this area ever since the survey stakes went in the ground. As I drove by today I saw the excavators going and a sweet little lacebark about to get pushed up. I flagged the operator and he actually dug it for me before trashing everything else. I know this isn’t the right time of year for this…but…it’s the better option for this tree.
Here it is after the extraction, wrapped and riding shotgun
It’s a good looking tree, after it recovers and started growing again i will figure out where I want to go with it.
it had a pretty flat root system
After a bit of minor root trimming and a quick chop and paste, I think this one’s gonna do just fine. All the roots that got cut got potted up too. Waste not want not right? I love that this tree is old enough that the bark is already starting to peel!
