I bought this San Jose Juniper as nursery stock from Lone Pine Gardens in Sebastopol. This week I styled it with the help of Ivan Lukrich at the monthly intermediate workshop put on by REBS. We may pull up the top with the help of some rebar next week, but the first styling is essentially done. I'm pretty happy with the results although some may see it as a bit "cookie cutter". If that is the case, then I'm fine with it. I have no "cookie cutter" type pines or junipers so I suppose I needed one.

Sorry I forgot to take a before picture, but it basically looked like your average nursery stock juniper in a plastic pot. I will be improving and adding deadwood (i.e. shari at the base) in the future. As far as the somewhat "pointy" top is concerned, as it grows I will be developing a more rounded crown.

As always advice and criticisms are welcome. Also, although it is a ways off from this point, if anyone has a suggestion for a pot, it would be appreciated.

Thanks
Cory

That's a big pot for a small tree. You will have to be careful reducing the root ball in the final stages, but I'd start now by taking a saw and cutting the root ball in half.

Then, do nothing more for the rest of this year. If that jin hasn't dried out, you may want to wire it to a more vertical position.
