ROR oak pot choice

I'm considering pots that have a more Chinese feel. A little more "fussy" than I normally like. Am I off base? Any of these seem like the right type? Generally I suck at choosing pots.....can't seem to see the result until I put the tree in it.

Just going off google, your round, deeper pots seem a bit off base. flatter, wider, oval or rec seem to be more the norm. Therefore I like pot 4, but im no ror expert.

Good idea reviewing photos. It may take me a couple more years to work it into something very shallow. The roots right now fill that 8 inch deep basket. I don't think valley oak tolerate a lot of root work, so I've been careful and slow with it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ah I see, so something on the deeper side then, maybe not a finished pot just yet, but something you can enjoy.

From the pots you’ve chosen to show I like this one the best. What I like about it is the show of solid strength with the straighter walls, the depth says well grounded, the color contributes to an ancient look and doesn’t distract from the tree, the shape…I like the more squared off appearance of this pot which is an opposite of the curving softer approach of the exposed roots. The color and design properties contribute to a great image together with the tree. I think that the exposed roots and the rock combine well with this pot and weathering if this pot over time will enhance the older look.

The leaves and the roots feel soft and rounded, so I was thinking oval or mokko. But you can find a strong/old unglazed oval or mokko

Thank you. Will you be vending at the GSBF Rendezvous in October?

Something g like this?

Cream glaze + patina could highlight the lovely bark year round? Something this shallow would take several seasons work into but it’s nice to have something to work toward

I agree. I might look for a deeper (and cheaper) version for a year or two while I work the roots.
