Hi,
So, for those knowing what I wanted my black pine to end up like.
This about describes what I desire. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/410109109788941997/
For the japanese white pine.https://www.dcpages.com/gallery/Nat...l?g2_GALLERYSID=TMP_SESSION_ID_DI_NOISSES_PMT
I know I can't do much now. I'm just responding to Brian in my "getting starting with JWP and JBP?" Thread. For now I'm fielding growing.
Also, I really am considering buying a zuisho grafted onto JBP root. But it bothers me that's it's not true stock. I'm buying easy deciduous tree's for now.
Is it safe to cake fertilize pines now?
Thanks,
Porter

I'm talking about the tree's in "pines unhealthy?"

Why are you starting another thread on the same 2 seedlings? If you keep it all together it may be easier to follow.

I am sooooooo lost here! What are we talking about exactly...?

Ok,
Maybe I should've sent a PM to the user.
Sorry guys. This thread... Forget it.

You are obviously excited about bonsai. That is great. It is also clear that you have a lot to learn. There is nothing wrong with that. There is so much to learn even about just one species. You could practice bonsai for your entire life and still learn something new each day.

A few pieces of advice:

When you start a thread on a tree, stick with it. You may have questions along the way that are not even close to the original intent of the thread but keep them in the original thread. It makes it much easier for people to keep up with what you are asking.

You indicated that you have a mentor that you have been working with. Sit down with your mentor and pick his brain. At this point you are overflowing with questions that would be much easier to answer in person.

Read until your eyes bleed. There is so much information out there that is readily available. It takes a while to be learn to weed out the good and the bad but that will come too.

Formulate some kind of plan of action. Set realistic goals. Have something to strive for. You seem to be bouncing around trying to figure out what to do. A plan might be something like this; this year I’m going to join a bonsai club, get x number of trees to start working on, go to a class and read such and such books.

Hang in there and good luck.

Hi jeanclu83,
I have started to notice people aren't understanding me because I'm bouncing all over the place. I think your right about sticking with one thread. I think people are being annoyed by me just babbling off different things and not sticking with something I need to learn.
My goal this year is to get into a habit by attending my local club every month. Then my other goal is to make sure my tree's survive the winter. I'm probably waiting until next spring to buy more tree's because the person I buy from is still growing them and they won't be available until early spring of 2015. People tell me I can't do anything about my pines for a few years. My goal with those is to just grow them out for a long time. I think I'll just start out with buying 1 gallon deciduous stock and just start with easy tree's.
I have been reading, but I think I need to go to the club and contact my mentor again, as I haven't seen him for about 2 years. He is really busy, so it's hard to get some lessons out of him.
I just need live experience I think.
Thanks for the advice, I'll take it into account.
Porter

And asking the same questions over and over again.............. Just take a deep breath and take one step at a time. I do admire your enthusiasm at such a young age though.

Porter, may I ask how old you are? Also be aware that grafting is a method of asexual propagation it does not make something not real stock . It is a way to keep a variety of plant identical to the genes of the original. There may be reason you want to avoid a graft but "not real stock" isn't one of them. Many cultivars such as zuisho cannot be created by seed it would just be a regular jwp as you have.

It sounds like you have a good plan. Waiting until spring to buy more trees is a good decision. You can buy trees at any time but you will then need to overwinter them. Good luck and keep at it.
