So this is my Gmelina Philippensis. A tree that grows like it’s the last of its kind. I only wish I could show you guys a shot of it when first purchased as its like a different tree now. Anyway my question is about the charming branch on the second shot. It’s grown to that length in an interestingly short period. Can it be used as a sacrifice branch at this point in the trunk’s growth?

Any growth will thicken the trunk between the shoot and the roots, no matter what stage the tree or trunk is up to.
If you want a little more thickening down there let it go.
It appears the shoot is right at the back so any thickening may not actually be visible from the front.
Remember that any sacrifice shoot will leave some scar when you remove it and, the slower your canopy is developing the slower scars heal over. I see you already have some scars on the trunk so maybe another one will not be such an issue.

Consider both negatives and positives then you'll need to make your own call on whether to let it grow or cut early.
