Put it to sleep?

I found this Japanese grey bark elm at a nursery for 10$!! Seems like it has been grown in a green house all winter.
Does anyone have any recomendations on if I should defoliate and put it in my shed with my other trees? It’s been a weird winter weather wise but it still has a good month and half of cold weather.
My plan is to put it on the ground this spring, planning on cutting back to that first branch.

If it has been growing in a greenhouse all winter, I would put it under grow lights or by a window and keep it indoors until spring.
It hasn't had a chance to harden or prepare for winter and freezing temps, so to be safe, I would leave it indoors for now.
