Hello, I have a year one chopped pond cypress with a root coming from the trunk. I am wondering if anyone has had experience with a root like this. I think I want to take the root out but I’m wondering if I should make a clean cut, slightly indented. Or if I should make some sort of Jin? Maybe carve out where the root is coming out to make a small hollow in the trunk? What do you think?

Thank you!!!

Honestly I kind of like it as a feature. And it's so massive that it's removal could prove highly problematic.

I like the small hollow idea. Provided that is somewhere neer the front of the tree so it would be seen. Also I would wait untill repotting time and make sure it's not the sorce of most of the fine roots. Which seems unlikely.

Get rid of that root. It will continue to dominate and overtake the rest of the nebari if left alone. Don’t worry about taking it all at once. Won’t affect the tree. If the other roots are established and healthy
