I have some young Japanese maples that seem to be having a ruff time in comparison to my others that are leafing out like crazy. Is this spring wilt? Anyone know how I can save these trees?20200416_093316.jpg20200416_093249.jpg

Its probably too late, but I'd find a fungicide that treats Pseudomonas and Phytophthora. I know the former is a fungus affecting jmaples in the spring and recently heard the latter is mayve caused similar results to a more established jmaple. Then I'd move it to a more humid environment.

Then I'd give up hope that you're going to save these trees, knowing you've done all you can now.

Ok thanks for the info. I added a tiny amount of sphagnum moss to the soil mix to help retain water for our warm summers. I wonder if the fungus was caused to sphagnum moss retaining too much of the heavy rains we just had? Wondering if I should repot them all

I was hoping the pots were just dry.

You shouldn't need anything above that soil.

Look at the trunk right down near the soil to see if the bark is black down there. Black = dead after fungal infection.

Found a product called Phyton 27. Their spec sheet has listed mixing ratios for crops at 15-25 fl.oz per 100 gallons water. Trying to figure out how much I need per 5 gallon small pot container I have. Stuff is expensive. Would 1tsp per gallon sound about right for a 5 gallon soil treatment?

yea I made the mistake of mulching with redwood bark after fertilizing with happy frog a month ago , and that with the spagnum moss in the soil and heavy rains seems like a great home for fungus. I recall picking a few shrooms 🤢

The person I got the maples from was kind enough to send out some replacements. One does have black areas on the base of the trunk probably a goner. For the others I washed their roots and wrapped them in dry sphagnum moss to absorb and dry them out, letting the others that had the same fertilizer mulch issue dry out also. fingers crossed

How does this one look? Some leaves are curled and deformed.20200424_070146.jpg20200424_070135.jpg20200424_070105.jpg20200424_070038.jpg
