Wondering if anyone here is growing Plectranthus, either as a bonsai or just as a house plant? If so, maybe you can share your experience growing/styling it.
I've seen one as a bonsai before, I think at Bill V's place...so I've been keeping an eye out for a plant to experiment with. A vendor at the National Exhibition this past September ("Mulberry Creek Herb Farm", mulberrycreek.com) had a bunch of them (and all kinds of neat things - herbs, accent plants, etc) so I grabbed one.
I've included a couple of pics. Right now it doesn't look like a bonsai at all, and it may never. I have to figure out the growth habit...sort of succulent-like, as it produces swollen trunk/branch bases. Regardless, it's a neat cheery little thing to have indoors as the heart of winter settles in. It's been growing and blooming non-stop since September. Leaves are thick, fuzzy, and quite fragrant.
For more information and to see what plectranthus as bonsai looks like, check out http://swindon-bonsai.co.uk/2014/04/22/plectranthus-as-bonsai/ Maybe Bill will post a pic of his (if he in fact does have one).
