Pinus Nigra to be continued

Do needle plucking slows the growth of pine ? You have plucked all the needles from previous year.
 
It started with the top being way too vigorous, and just balancing that out. But the remaining needles on the bottom branches were so few and pointless I just clipped those too. Bottom branches are going to grow wild for a bit, but the back budding is very unreliable on them....so the future of this tree may be very unconventional.
 
Do you have any experience working with them or this one is mere a guinea pig ?
