here they are

1st one is from a few months after collection, not a very clear photo though, one in the terracotta coloured pot on the right, its buddy that died, of mites or something, just left of it.I pruned off a lot of juvenile shoots and only kept those I wanted
Photo-0018.jpg

next up is a year or two down the line, you can see it had quite a few prunings since the last pic

I've heard and seen that buds developing on old wood in pines can be a response to insect and/or fungal infestation. Was that possibly the case, here?

Dont think so based on the budding im getting here. Only thing that is living in my tree is a camillon lizard. These things just like to bud.

On new growth do you let the candles extend out and open up or do you reduce the candles before they open up

Hi Rick! :)

That depends,

If the growth is juvenile I cut whenever I see the juvenile shoot throwing buds along the shoot, I would cut back to one of these buds. If mature growth it helps to wait for the needles to harden off and then cut back. the needlebuds pop very reliably

The tree is really getting bushy again. I will post pics up again when i get home. It seems that this tree likes all the heat you can give it and has a wide habitat it can grow in as it also grows well in missouri where my dad lives

hey Rick,

did you cut it again after moving up north? I might caution you, the move brings with it climate change, shortened growing season etc.. you can cut, but do not go postal on it, leave enough green on it to support the tree come spring next year.

How many Months left of summer for you?
what is the daily temps like where you've moved to?

best regards
Herman
