Hey overall its not a bad looking tree. Not crazy about the downward pointing Jim but other than that considering what you had to work with I think you did an outstanding job.

I think this tree would will make a nice future bonsai. Here are 2 options that I see. First, a nice bunjin. Maybe not the classic, stripped down to bare bones kind, but maybe one that is a little fuller. Wouldn't be hard. Just remove 1/2 the foliage from the bottom on both sides and wire the new bottom branches out a bit to create a flared silhouette. However, you already knew how to do that if thats what you want. That is the thing, it would be something you would want for this tree. Another option would be to just create spacing by eliminating pads here and there as you go up tree. That might also create a very nice image. Especially since the foliage is so close to the trunk. Lots to work with. Like you said, best to wait and see how it develops.

Thanks for the reply...

I personally have some very nice material that I work on when I can...
and then I have trees I work on mainly to keep going with, and to stay
sharp...

I learned along time ago seeing that I have been doing Art in some form
or another since I was a kid, that 2 things really matter, the first that out
of a hundred pieces of art, 5, if one's lucky might be really, really worth a
crap. The rest will always be so-so... This is just the way it is... anyone
who tells you differently is just incorrect !!!

The second... it never fails, the stuff you think is really awesome as the
Artist, and are very happy with, is what usually others don't seem to
care as much about... For some strange reason, it never fails, they like the
so-so stuff. Again, don't ask me why... This is just the way it is !!!

This tree, could and might have a very bright future, for there are many
ways one might go with it, you have mentioned some.

For me however... the tree was not import, it was the doing of the tree that
was important !!!

I completely understand.

Thats why I have always contended that no one is an artist. People don't "do" bonsai with art in mind. Most people do really great craft. Every once and a while something will stand out and be considered art......in hindsight

I agree.

If one looks throughout the "art-world" history, how many times
does one hear that a painter died penniless...

At the time their creations were not worth much, but in hindsight...
Perhaps because of the fact that no more can be made, they
all of a sudden become multi-million dollar pieces.
:)

I think there are savants in any craft that man does. For instance we all know that there are great many trained bonsai experts that have a much better chance at making art everytime, than someone like me that may only achieve semi art statice once in my life.

If there is one thing you are showing that no one else here has ever shown is you are showing some "evocative" work. That type of craft is what turns into art later on down the road.
