Hiya friends, brand new to this world but trying to learn so please bear with me :)
I received this elm as a gift and I don't think I know what to do with it, where to prune, etc

I don't like the shape, but I am also afraid to do anything drastic since I don't know any better...

Was wondering what would you do with this or what you recommend - if I can learn from the experience even better!

thanks in advance

Try to keep it alive for a full year (through all seasons) before doing anything drastic.

It'll do better outside than inside.

Thanks! Should I keep it outside year-round? If not when would I bring it inside? I live in Seattle and find conflicting information online :)

It's an elm. They're pretty much weeds. Outside all year with no protection in Seattle is fine, water as needed, fertilize occasionally during the growing season, chop it up however you like and it'll spring back. Just don't chop it like mad more than once a season. They can recover from almost anything, but they do need a chance to breathe in between.

Adding you general location to your profile will cut down allot on constantly being asked.

Oh, and welcome aboard!

Keep it happy this year.
next year, before buds pop, I would repot into a larger, but shallow container. If the Tree is healthy enough. I would also do some root pruning to start improving those large roots growing downwards.
