Each Feb, the collection North in Oakland, Ca has an auction and fundraiser to help support the collection. Some of the auction trees are surplus ones from the collection and others are sold on consignment from individuals. This juniper was advertised as a San Jose juniper, which it's not and was from someone who put it in on consignment. I believe that it is a prostrata. It had a great trunk and nebari but way too many branches and was in in an over size pot.
I purchased it with the idea that I would be working with Ryan Neil in a couple of days. My friends at the auction that it was a piece of crap, and when I took it to the workshop, I got the same reaction. Ryan and I consulted on what branches to remove, and then I spent the next 6 hours wiring every branch. Ryan then set the branches. Forgot to get a before picture, but the first one is with the branches cut and laying in the pot, second one is after I wired the tree, and the third is Ryan setting the branches.
