Nana BooBoo, WalMart Couldn't Kill You 😋

They’re looking really good. Nice way to honor the original plant.

I am curious if you were planning to create a plate/ribbon trunk by carving on the inside and the outside of the trunk on the original plant you lost. It looked like you started the process and had continued expanding on the original Shari at one point.

Are you possibly or similarly planning to carve into some trunks of these cuttings eventually? I’m beginning the process of creating Shari and going to make plated/ribboned trunks on my JPNs.

yeah, im definitely going to try to create that ribbon affect in the two small cuttings. i have another plan with the big one. not going to start on the work till i have a good shape set and trunk girth (giggity giggity) is about a finger or two in size. i see a lot of people cutting a large strip out of fairly thin material and the end result is not to my liking. i want more than a little bit of deadwood in the center of the ribbon or it might rot through befor you finish the bonsai in twenty or thirty years. you can only subtract deadwood. i also plan on starting the shari at like a millimeter line. they look much more interesting when you widen the callus with just a thin line on each side every year.
