I bought this juniper from bonsai of Brooklyn during the pandemic it's the tree that started my passion for bonsai.

The foliage was thin but after i received it it filled in nicely over that growing season. It continued to grow and what was once kinda a broom grew a long whip. I had to relatively long parallel ish branches but one broke I tried to save it by using cut past and wrapping it and it did heal where it split but alas I tried to bend it too soon and lost jt.

I am currently training it as a cascade or semi cascade. I kind of want to wire and bend a little more toward the pot but I am pretty scared as this is one of my favorite trees. What do you all think about my trees progress?

Nice start.
You do know you don't have to repot it every year?
Probably every 3 years or so and let it grow a bit in between
I do know. I let it stay in the blue pot for 2 to 3 years then changed jt from the green to the unglazed one almost immediately because I didn't like the look.

I like it! Has good potential

Soak some raffia, wrap it snug and tight, then wrap some heavy wire around the trunk, and put some interesting bends and turns into the trunk and it will look 💎

Keep lateral branches on the outside of bends/curves and consider now where you will place future pads along the trunk 😎

*also:

likely best to make those bends in the late Fall/almost Winter when the tree slows down (considering how large and thick the trunk is and how active the tree is inside - - though on small junipers I push the envelope even in May/June)

I am definitely fearful as I had two branches I was training and snapped the other. I use bandage tape rather than raffia not sure if one is better than the other.

If you live in Brooklyn you should check out the collection at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Your procumbens looks really good and, in my opinion, now in the perfect pot. I have a fairly mature semi-cascade and am terrified about bending. I’ve been trying to use pruning to get it into shape.

I recently left brookln but I am still in nyc and have been wanting to go to that exhibit but never got around to it its on my to do list this summer 🙂
Thank you for your kind words. I hated it in the other pot and was like I know I shouldn't remove it but within like idk a couple days I moved it lolol
