Hi everyone

I am in desperate need of help in order to save my almost dying Bonzai tree. We have been on holiday and the tree was not feeling well when we came home. I must be honest and say that I am not any professional in this topic so I hope you can help me save it.

For future reference in case you decide to pick up another again, you should be keeping it outside unless you decided to bring it in for the photo. A lot of species used for bonsai probably will not do so well indoors, except from a small few although I have no experience with them and you'll find some good threads on here about them. Even though you have a drip tray, I do not think the humidity or light was enough for the tree due to the fact it was kept indoors - especially if you kept it on a windowsill that perhaps doesn't get as much light compared to other directions. It may have been overwatered as well if the water uptake was reduced, but I can't tell you that's exactly the problem from the picture anyway even though the leaves are very droopy.

That looks like one of the mass-produced azaleas you see in garden centres, especially considering I'm pretty sure I bought the exact same one as my second ever tree. They don't seem to be kept in the best condition when being sold either as the staff probably won't be trained with bonsai. The soil isn't the best as it's quite compact and will hold a lot of water, and perhaps won't be as acidic as is preferred for azaleas unless you added something to acidify it etc. So it's best to repot these into kanuma if you decide to try again - I do my repotting in late Feb to early March but it depends where you are in the world. If you could add your USDA zone and location on your profile, it will also greatly help other people trying to diagnose problems in the future. Good luck with any future trees and I hope you try with azaleas again! They're my favourite.

Looks like a goner. Was it doing ok before your vacation? How long were you gone for? Is the soil sopping wet from a recent watering or is that the standard watering level you have kept it at. If typical condition, this tree probably drowned, suffered from root rot.
