Moving to a larger pot...beefing up trunk...how long will they stay in said pot

Pretend this pot doesn't have the tie-down holes.

Use 2 lengths of wire, and wrap them around a thick wire as the anchor.
Pass the wires up through the drain hole in the bottom of the pot. (This anchor wire is obviously too long).
Spread the wires out by wrapping them around bamboo sticks to get them to the edges of the pot.
Then when you place the root ball in the pot, on top of the bamboo, twist the wires together around the roots, as already shown. Its important to get the tree secured tightly.

Thanks so much for the photos of each step! I understand now what I need to do...thanks so much!

I see so it is merely a way to spread wires to the outer edge of the pot. I would assume this not nessesary in a pot with 2 drain holes.

I found a pot...and was curious since beefing up the trunk is my goal...if the bonsai will stay in this pot for a year or two?

Found a pot...curious if I want to spend the $$$...love the feet...and feel I would definitely use it once this bonsai outgrew it. With something else. Which...means I am really persuaded to make this purchase. It is a round pot as well...which was suggested to me to go with.

Generally they seem to stay in the pot until you remove them ....

Just realized I never ordered bamboo sticks...is there a specific thickness one needs? Or just visually thinner ones...

Would these work?

My pot arrived from the UK!!! I absolutely LOVE it...I must admit the box it arrived in could have told a story of its own...and I was quite nervous to open it. But the seller went to amazing packaging lengths inside...and it was not damaged. :o

Now to await the soil to dry out in my pot...and hoping by that time my soil I ordered arrives by then.

Question though...I need some mesh for the drain hole...what would you suggest? A specific kind or can I just pick up what they sell at say...Ace Hardware for screen doors?

Go to the craft outlet and get a piece of the plastic needlepoint canvas sheet... Works like a charm on the cheap ;)

They had nothing like that...and I don't have the time to get to the bigger town a little over an hour aways drive away from me to get some. So...sadly I placed it in the shopping cart with my wire. But...I made a mental note...if and when I get to the bigger town...I'll get me some. (They only sell the hook rug kits in town where the crafts are sold...so...that wouldn't work. Much cheaper to order it.

Do you know if the size of bamboo mentioned in my last post here...would work? I need to get my ducks in a row so I can get this bonsai planted in its larger pot.

Its not that scientific...anything will do; chopsticks from the local Happy Wok, or skewers from the grocery.

Yeah I use Bamboo Chopsticks, Skewers, or even toothpicks sometimes - Bamboo holds up well and most grocery stores have all three in a pinch.

Attach wires if the pot has tie-down holes, shown in first two photos
Then when you set the tree in, twist them together with pliers to tighten them down around the root ball, as shown in the third.

Thanks again for the great photos explaining how to do this...I finally...got it repotted. :) Now...how long do I wait to fertilize it? I am thinking a month...am I correct? Or is it sooner or later?
