I removed one of my trees from the mulch pile yesterday for a repot and noticed that there was white mold all over the inside of the hole. This freaked me out and I have now removed most of the trees from the mulch (most, but not all, had the white stuff too). Is this something I need to worry about? Is there something I now need to do with my trees to address the mold once out of the mulch?

Congratulations! You have a happy plant. Sounds like mycorrhizae, a beneficial fungus which is prized for bonsai. You must have healthy plants! We also remove the "white mold" to inoculate other plants. It grose in association with roots and develops a symbiotic relationship. Today we are preparing for tomorrow's workshop using over 150 Ezo spruce. Boy, were we surprised to find an abundance of Mycorrhizae!
