Hi!

Anyone uses Miracle Gro Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food - NPK 24-8-16?
If so, what amount do you mix with water for bonsai trees?

The package has instructions with different concentrations, but for bonsai might be diferent from the ones provided.

I use it all the time. About a half a capful per gallon. Sorry, I don't measure that precisely.

Yes I use it - both the regular Miracle Grow water soluble and the Miracid water soluble.

I use it in a sprayer that mixes it with water as I water, so I don't have a specific concentration. I use it once every two weeks (every other Sunday). Miracid on my azaleas, camellias, quince and Japanese maples.

Mix it normal concentration and do it according to the package, or mix lighter and go more often...

You hear about people "super feeding" their trees... it that is only for advanced folks using inorganic soils. Organic "dirt" holds substantial nutrients for longer periods and can get too "hot" if you over feed...

So, if you have PRE- BONSAI you are growing out in regular nursery soils, be careful!

If you have advanced bonsai living in pour outs free draining inorganic soils, you can feed more often...

IOW, there is no one right answer. Hope that clarifies! :)

I use it and the Mir acid.
You know the big end of the scoop?
4 to 5 level scoops per gallon once per week.
Totally inorganic substrate.

Works at 1/3 strength to moist soils once a week, but then so does their Lawn Fertiliser, as stated before.
The aged compost we use also traps the fertiliser.

4 to 5? Isn't that too much? Even watering agressively on inorganic soil?

I use a balanced fert mixed up to a nice royal blue, NPK 20-20-20, one week....then the next week I go with the fish emulsion (nasty shit).
Excpet for my azaleas, I use an "acid loving" miracle grow.....
Does anyone use fish on azaleas?

I use it with the hose end sprayer. I apply it to everything... bonsai, flowers vegetables shrubs, trees, lawn, and groundcover. Its easy, safe, and effective. I also use teabags filled with Gro-Power plus or Dr Earth organic food on my bonsai.

Nope.
Sometimes I give that to elms twice a week.
It gets rinsed next time I water. Which is the next day.
I have never burned a tree doing this.
And the grass under my benches love it.
And it isn't planted in lava and D.E. Hmmmm.

Do you use organics in your mix Mike? anyway, what are tell tale signs of fert burn, how would someone even know if they've over fertilized, ive yet to see anyone show what fert burn even looks like:confused:

No organics at all.
Except what's in the field soil on collected trees and nursery soil for the ones fresh from the nursery.
But it doesn't matter. I dump it on all.

Thank you for your answers.
I am following what @Walter Pall suggests (overfeeding+agressive watering+modern substrate), but with Miracle Gro I do not know how much to dilute in water.
@M.Frary uses a significant amount of Miracle Gro. Much more than what I am currently using.
I may try and do the 4 to 5 big scoops in one tree and see what happens...

Thanks

@DVB ,

if you do that, look for any signs of insect attack, just in case you grow softer, tastier growth.
That goes for fungal / bacteria etc.

Remember, if you grow wood faster it also comes out weaker and softer. Easier to damage.
Best of growing.
Good Day
