Micromax micro nutrients

I do not see any need for micronutrients when using quality modern fertilizers. Most already contain most trace elements so additions should not be required. Different if you are using home made fert which may or may not have enough. Check your current fert labels before wasting money on something you may not require.

If you need this you're using the wrong fertiliser.

He uses Micromax on his trees, specifically his 5 needle Pine zuisho, but also uses inorganic fertilizer in his completely sterile soil mix. IMO micromax is most useful for jwp/5 needle pines which tend to respond poorly to organics in my experience and the advice of others. So if you aren’t using organics/ferts with ample trace elements then it may be necessary, but it also depends on your soil, water, and fertilizer contents.

I need stuff like this even though I'm using both high grade and cheap fertilizers.
Not because I think it's theoretically efficient. But because I see physical health improvements within days. If you're going for good, that's alright. A little better for 5 euros a year and a 10 minute effort, is worth it.

If you use liquid fertilizer that already contains micro nutrients this doesn't add anything useful. I prefer keeping things simple.

These positive comments about the efficacy of micro nutrients reflect t the way I feel about using kelp supplements.

Get yourself a bottle of Pokon Groene Planten. I'll pay for it if you want.
Then use it for a year and tell me this again without lying through your teeth ;-)

Are you using it?

Here is the problem with this post. It is like asking “what soil should I use?” I’m not asking that, as I know soils, fertilizers and type of wine you like is all regional and personal preference.

I’m curious of the specific product or even if others have used micronutrients. @Wires_Guy_wires what are you using ?

A Dutch product called Pokon Groene Planten.
From the top of my head it contains (EDTA/EDDH chelated) iron, zinc, boron, copper, manganese, calcium, magnesium and some NPK.

But I also have some of that smelly kelp extract. Not entirely sure what's in there. But I remember it's higher in Iodine than most nutrients.

I have some I got from Julian (he sells, or used to sell, small containers of it). I've used it most years in the spring on pines and sometimes on other trees that seem to be exhibiting some micro nutrient symptoms. Honestly, though, I haven't noticed much difference in the trees before/after except for some rare cases. For instance, I've had some pine seedlings that were weak, possibly from soil or root problems, and the micronutrients greened them up quickly...but it's obviously not the proper long term solution to the problem in those cases (usually it's the soil/roots).

My preference is to use a variety of fertilizers ("blue powder" type things like growmore, miracle grow as well as organics) and that seems to work for most trees most of the time.

I bought mine from Julian in a MUCH smaller (2 oz? 4 maybe) container. Somewhere along the way I have associated it with acidifying the soil. I'm not sure if that was from a few lengthy conversations I had with him or if it was in the Int'l Bonsai series where he discussed the care of Zuisho JWP. I've only used it sparingly and noticed no ill effects. Certainly, my testing hasn't been conclusive.

I didn't mean micronutrients are useless but if you use a decent fertiliser you do not need something like micromax. That's already in the fertiliser.

Has anyone found it in less than 50lb bags
Yes

It does turn any moss black, looking dead for well into the Summer.
I use it on all my pines. @Adair M uses it Julian uses it, I don't see a reason not to use 1 Tsp per pot per year.
I use organic as well as inorganic food including seaweed extract, but I do not fertilise my WP in the Spring, only this Micromax
seaweed and kelp, unless it is very young.

I use it because Julian Adams uses it, and he has been successful with Zuisho JWP. I remember, years ago, a good number of Kokonoe and Zuisho were imported, and pretty much all of them died. Julian convinced Bull Valavanis to sell one to him. Bill was reluctant to sell it because he felt it was weak, and didn’t want to sell a weak tree. But Julian was insistent, and was able to get one. Julian gave the tree a bit of Micromax, and the tree strengthened, and thrived. All his Zuisho have been derived from that once weak tree.

I know it’s anecdotal evidence, but if the trees under Julian’s care thrive with Micromax, there’s no reason not to continue.

Why not just use Dyna-gro fertilizer if you're worried about micro nutrient deficiencies. You also get the big 3 with dyna-gro. Kill two birds with one stone.
