Merry Xmas to me ! Thanks, George Muranaka ! Buy yourself a Xmas bonsai !

Here is my Xmas present to myself this year. Each year I try to reward myself for all my hard work and this is a nice pine from George Muranaka. It has interesting movement, which I like in all my trees. It's about 15 inches tall with a two inch trunk. Black pines are one of my favorites, they grow well just about everywhere, even in Minnesota ! I encourage everyone on the forum to buy themselves an Xmas bonsai because you all deserve it.

Did you buy this on his ebay store? How was it shipped?

Bought on his ebay store. It was packed expertly, shipped priority mail. I got it in two days.

My wife was declared cancer free. That is more than I can ask for Christmas. :)

So glad for you and your wife and family. That is the best thing anyone can get for Christmas

Here's a picture of the Hawthorn I said Santa was bringing me for Christmas. It came from Zach Smith at Bonsai South. It's a lot better looking in person than the picture on his website. Better than my picture too. The tree arrived in excellent condition and shipping was free. It was only $55.00 Zach is a very personable guy. He replied to all of my questions with a good knowledge of this species and even emailed me to find out if the tree arrived when it was supposed to and if I liked it. A person couldn't ask for better service.
This my first hawthorn and my first flowering tree. Spring couldn't get here faster. I'm pretty excited.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone who is a member and to all of their families.

Yikes! Got it now.

The Armadillo

I picked up this buttonwood (my first) at the farmer's market today. My son sort of picked it out. When asked why, "because it looks like an armadillo". Had to buy it.

I know it needs work, a new pot, etc. & of course it's not in the same league as some of those above, but it should be a fun project.

I 2nd that question. Where did you get it? It that shimpaku grafted onto San Jose?

Good for you, that's a nice piece of material. I would also add my voice to the where did you get it chorus!

We call him "Bodyshop Tom", he's in Orange County, CA. He has tonage of junipers, olives and Black Pines. All fairly large stuff, I mean huge, like Cal. junipers and olives the size of fiats. He grafts kishu shimpaku on just about every juniper. This is prostrata understock.
